Weekends at the mall are usually filled with shopping, coffee runs, and casual strolls, but at SM City Consolacion Cebu, the atmosphere recently turned extra lively with a pet-friendly community event that brought together dog lovers, fur parents, and animal advocates.

From what we witnessed, the event featured a fun run activity for dogs and their owners, alongside booths showcasing pet products, pet care essentials, and animal welfare initiatives. The mall’s open activity area was filled with excited participants wearing matching event shirts while their furry companions happily walked around the venue.

Golden retrievers, small fluffy breeds, and even rescued dogs became instant crowd favorites as people stopped to take photos and interact with them. The event felt less like a competition and more like a celebration of the bond between pets and humans.

One of the most heartwarming parts of the event was the stray dog adoption booth. Volunteers from the rescue group patiently introduced the puppies to interested adopters while sharing the importance of giving rescued animals a second chance at life.

Among the puppies was a small brown pup named Marimar — the last puppy left from a group of around ten puppies earlier that day. According to one of the rescue volunteers, Marimar used to be playful and energetic with her siblings around. But as her brothers and sisters slowly got adopted throughout the day, she became quieter, sleepy, and noticeably bored while waiting alone in her little space.
Thankfully, the story ended on a happy note.
We were there to witness Marimar finally getting adopted, bringing smiles not only to the volunteers but also to the people nearby who had been rooting for her. It was a simple but touching reminder that adoption events like these truly change lives, not just for the animals, but also for the families willing to open their homes to them.
Events like this continue to show how Cebu’s pet-loving community is growing stronger, promoting responsible pet ownership, adoption awareness, and compassion for stray animals.
Hopefully, more activities like this will continue across Cebu in the future, because every dog deserves both a fun day out and a loving home. 🐶❤️
