In Conversation with Atty. Jed Buyser

Q: You’re known for your work in law and real estate. How would you describe your lifestyle outside of your profession?
A: I try to maintain balance. Legal work requires focus and preparation, so outside of it, I gravitate toward activities that are active and strategic — like basketball and chess. They help me reset while still keeping my mind engaged.
Q: How did your journey begin?
A: I graduated from the University of San Jose–Recoletos College of Law in 2014 and passed the bar exams that same year, taking my oath in 2015. Since then, I’ve been engaged in law practice and also served as a professor at USJ-R starting in 2015, currently on leave.
Q: What does basketball mean to you?
A: Basketball keeps me active and reminds me of the importance of teamwork. It’s fast-paced, and you have to think quickly , similar to litigation where you must adapt and respond efficiently.
Q: You’re also a chess enthusiast. How does that influence you?
A: Chess teaches patience and foresight. You don’t just think about the next move; you think several steps ahead. That mindset is very helpful in both legal practice and real estate transactions.
Q: What role do online games play in your downtime?
A: Online games are another outlet for strategy and coordination. They’re competitive but also collaborative. It’s a way to unwind while still exercising problem-solving skills.
Q: If you had to describe your approach to life in one phrase?
A: Stay disciplined, think ahead, and keep improving.
